📜 Playbook — Imagery Intelligence collection

  1. Direction — frame the requirement for Imagery Intelligence: what decision does this support, by when?
  2. Collection — collect from the 0 mapped sources (0 free) — filter the catalog by IMINT; capture provenance and observe OPSEC.
  3. Processing — normalize, de-duplicate and enrich the collected data.
  4. Analysis — correlate against local holdings; apply ACH; assign confidence.
  5. Dissemination — open a case, draft a report, share via STIX/MISP.
  6. Feedback — set an alert rule / watchlist to monitor for change.

🎯 Mission

IMINT collects and exploits imagery from electro-optical, multispectral, thermal and synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) sensors to identify objects, count order-of-battle, and assess damage and activity at specific sites. It answers what is present at a location, what condition it is in, and how it has changed between looks.

📡 Collection methods

  • Electro-optical image exploitation for equipment identification and PID
  • SAR/radar interpretation for all-weather, day-night detection and coherent change
  • Multispectral and thermal band analysis for camouflage, effluent and heat signatures
  • Stereo/photogrammetric measurement of object dimensions and structure heights
  • Battle-damage assessment (BDA) via crater and structural analysis
  • Image forensics (EXIF, error-level analysis) on sourced photos and video

🔧 Tools & frameworks

  • QGIS
  • ESA SNAP
  • FotoForensics/ELA
  • Google Earth Pro
  • OpenDroneMap
  • ImageJ

📜 Imagery Intelligence Tradecraft

  1. Acquire EO, multispectral and Sentinel-1 SAR frames over the target and pull Maxar/Umbra open-data tiles for events.
  2. Speckle-filter SAR, pan-sharpen EO, stack thermal and multispectral bands, and run ELA on sourced photos.
  3. Exploit imagery for equipment identification, order-of-battle counts and damage assessment using shadow-height and measurement tools.
  4. Confirm object identity against reference signatures and assign a NIIRS/PID confidence rating.
  5. Issue exploitation reports with annotated image chips and measured dimensions.
  6. Trigger re-look tasking and hand geolocated coordinates to GEOINT and targeting.
