GPS coordinates are a precise geodetic point expressed as latitude/longitude (and optionally altitude) in a defined datum. They matter because they pin an observation to an exact spot on Earth, enabling correlation of imagery, movement tracks, and multi-source sightings to the meter.
Format: WGS84 decimal degrees (lat -90..90, long -180..180), or DMS, MGRS, UTM, Plus Code, or geohash; datum must be stated to avoid meter-scale offsets.
