A vessel is a seagoing ship uniquely identified by an IMO number, MMSI and callsign, broadcasting position via AIS. Vessels are central to sanctions evasion (dark-fleet oil, ship-to-ship transfers), smuggling and IUU fishing, so tracking their identity, ownership and movements is a core maritime-intelligence task.
Format: IMO number: 'IMO' + 7 digits with modulo-10 check digit (last 6 digits weighted 7..2). MMSI: 9 digits, first 3 = MID country code. Callsign: ITU alphanumeric.
